Women in the Ancient World - new module for Classical Civilisation GCSE

We are adding the ‘Women in the Ancient World’ module to our Classical Civilisation GCSE online course this Autumn 2024.

The first 25 sessions are now available with the remainder being added during October.

In this module, learners explore the lives of women in a variety of capacities, focussing particularly on women’s lives in the societies of Athens and Republican Rome. Learners will consider the realities women’s lives in these societies, how women are represented and what may be understood about ancient ideas about gender.

Topics include ‘Women and power’, Women and religion’, ‘Warrior Women’, ‘Women and the home’ and ‘Women of Legend’.

This is a particularly fascinating and engaging module, encouraging learners to reflect on their own experiences and understanding of central issues such as equality and political rights in today’s world as they consider the lives of women in the ancient world.

This Sulis Learning course offers learners the opportunity to choose their preferred modules for completing the Classical Civilisation GCSE.
