Celebrating 5 years of Sulis Learning courses
In March 2021 we offered our first Classics GCSE courses and over the last five years we have extended our choice both of courses and modules.
We will shortly be adding German GCSE course, our second Modern Language GCCE. The course is delivered by Ruth Ward, a highly experienced teacher who has been subject lead in her school.
To mark our 5th anniversary, Dr Beer is kindly recording two talks which will be available exclusively to our students and will be found here on this ‘News and Updates’ page.
The first talk, ‘Just how catastrophic for the republic was Cicero’s consulship?’ is now available. The second talk will be added this summer. We hope you enjoy these fascinating additions.*
Thank you to everyone who has followed one of our courses over the last 5 years.
If you would like to be notified of new courses or modules in the future, you may wish to subscribe to our newsletter below.
*Please note: these are additional recordings and are not part of a course.
New - German GCSE
Our new German GCSE course has been created and is presented by Ruth Ward, a highly experienced, PGCE qualified teacher. The comprehensive course material builds the learner’s skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening and prepares them to succeed in the exams. The sessions are delivered via pre-recorded lessons in which students benefit from Ruth’s in-depth knowledge of the syllabus. The material is suitable for both beginners and those with some previous knowledge of German.
German is one of the most widely spoken languages in Europe, and the German economy is the largest in Europe. Learning German can therefore help widen employment opportunities as well as provide an enriched cultural experience when travelling and/or working in Germany.
The course follows the Pearson Edexcel specification that can be viewed here. The broad themes covered in the course are:
- My personal world
- Lifestyle and wellbeing
- My neighbourhood
- Media and technology
- Studying and my future
- Travel and tourism
These engaging themes encourage the building of a wide and useful vocabulary and the development of language skills.
It is also worth noting that there is no requirement to take the exams on completion of the course. Many students follow our courses as they enjoy the structured approach, quality of the teaching and opportunity to build confidence and ability at their own pace.
New additional sessions
New sessions focussing on higher mark questions with reference to exemplar answers
In these new sessions, Dr Beer guides the learner through a higher mark question with reference to exemplar answers. Students can further build and develop their exam technique, gaining confidence and valuable insights into how to achieve high marks.
All the Classics GCSE and A Level courses include these new sessions.
