It was over whether Greeks and Macedonians should perform the act of prsokynesis before Alexander.

It is difficult to say. Arrian may have been putting into the mouth of Callisthenes the views of himself or of his own time.

From Arrian, we learn that he started by heaping praise upon his subject, but later becoming a stern critic. We do not know if Arrian’s account is true.

 

He was executed after being accused of being part of a plot against Alexander, supposed by pages to kill Alexander in his sleep. It is possible that Callisthenes had been involved but not certain.
