Make notes from the ancient sources about the campaigns of Lars Porsena, and the acts of heroism by individual Romans (these can be found at the hyperlinks above, as well as in Plutarch’s life of Publicola, Livy and Dionysius). Why were these important for later Romans?

As with Brutus, they are moral exemplars, offering models for emulation as examples of heroic civic virtue. They place their duty to the state over their own safety.
