1. Given that we have wildly different accounts of the behaviour of Cambyses, which should we believe? Why?

There is no easy way to reconcile the different versions. A Persian source may have better access to information but may just be official propaganda. Herodotus may have the virtue of being an outside eye, but his information may be lacking or tainted with prejudice.

2. Read and make notes on Herodotus’ account of the death of Cambyses. How convincing do you find his account?
